Fun with Earth Colors

Starting the week with clients. I've got a few clients calls to make on a Monday so I dressed up on a Banana Rep white polo shirt and a skirt I bought from Tomato---on sale!!! I particularly love this wedge shoes from Bangkok. You remember when I featured a very stylish Korean shoes I bought from Divi with my cuz? Well, I'd say the Bangkok shoes are definitely better! They're both being imported by these RTW sellers but if you decide to buy shoes from off the racks, just get the ones from Bangkok as they are more durable than the Korean ones. They're equally stylish, slightly expensive by a few hundred bucks compared to Korean shoes but it's all worth it.

I still got this black dress from Julia. It's been about 5 years that it's in my closet but it's still in good condition. I never ever throw out clothes unless they are really worn out or when the color really sucks. Anyhow, I keep them preserved especially the classic ones. You know that styles come and go and they just repeat themselves over the years. So, it's very important for me to take care of the clothes I have now as I know I can use them in the future.

This is a repeat outfit without the hair curled up. We hit the bricks for some ideas on this sunny day. Thanks to my sister, she gave me these shades in time for the summer. It is usually difficult for me to find good shades because of the shape of my face. I really got to get the right frame for me. And since my face is round and big, I got to find something that will compliment the shape. I read from somewhere that for someone with round face, one should stick with the frames that has corners and a bit larger than your face. Actually, for me, if it doesn't fit, it won't probably look good.

This sunny outfit came from off the racks in a shop in Panay. It's a long blouse with metal zipper details shaped as a sun. The sleeves are just as puffy. I tried to put it single-handedly as a mini-dress but it didn't work. It's too short as a dress for me so I had to wear this black leggings. By the way, this is the Korean shoes I was talking about. I have worn them a few times and then, the plastic sole cracked. With the kind of activity I have, they can't manage to linger on as long as the Bangkok shoes that I (also) got in that shop in Panay. They're very stylish though. If there's one pair that I could find from the Bangkok shop, I would have one.

This is a jumper skirt suit I got from the ukay-ukay shop. The inner blouse is a bargain I got from Landmark Department Store in Makati. I love jumpers whether they're garments or jeans. They're young, fun and youthful. I would have a couple or a few of them for weekends usually but since it's always been a dress-down Friday, I put them on as my working clothes.

Mid-March Pastels

Started the week with white and fuschia. I read somewhere that we should have a "dress up Monday" instead of "dress down Friday." Very true. My Monday work day highlight is this spaghetti-strapped tank top blouse from Mango which was given to me as a Christmas gift. Paired with this crocheted white bolero and culottes (skort). During my elementary days, I remember buying my first culottes in Baclaran before our Christmas party. It was a fad then so as the local song "Sasadami" by Lady Diana. Me and my classmates put a choreo on that song and presented it before the grade 5 class. I learned from my very reliable friend here, Google, that culottes used to be an outfit worn by the gentlemen of the European upper-classes in from the late Renaissance to the early 19th century. So amazing how fashion line has evolved from a man's clothing to woman's.

Old rose and gray. Doesn't that sound so old? Hmmm, not for me. With this ruffled asymetrical skirt, it seemed like that I am a novice tap dancer. Never mind that, I love this skirt from ukay-ukay as it perfectly accentuated my lovely butt. Hehehe... The old rose, old-fashioned sweet blouse is an inheritance from a friend.

I stuck on a pastel yellow on a Wednesday for a client meeting. I like mixing whites with different colors. Usually the bright ones with white. I love this machine-knitted bolero of my sister, it has buttons on its collars. She told me never to wash it on the machine as it might get loose. Underneath is a halter-top white blouse. This mickey skirt used to be long up to my lower legs but then, I cut the excess garment off to give it a bit more of excitement. Accessorizing is also one of my compulsions especially with earrings. In fact, I could say I have much more selection than that of the bazaars in the mall. Mostly, these are gifts from different circle of friends. They know how I love this fanciful earrings. And if they find one that's bigger than my ears, they'd say: "Oh, that's so Maris" and buy them for me :)At this point, I wore the earrings made of thread, yes, thread given by my good friend, Madel when we were in DPC. Paired with this vintage bangles I bought from Pieces years, years back.

Where's the kikay on me? This is my first golden yellow blouse... scratch that... this is actually my second golden yellow blouse. I remember when I bought the first one, it was a long sleeve, turtle neck top as gold as sunrise. I realized it was too much for my tanned skin so I ditched it. This time, I was afraid to buy another golden yellow as I may repeat the same mistake. Fortunately, it was something that fitted me this time. I went on field so I just slipped myself into these black leggings and flats as I had to walk miles and miles over the metro.

Now, this is "dress-down Friday". this apple green long blouse cum mini-dress is from the streets of Pedro Gil. I got it for a 100 pesos, bought some ornaments from Quiapo and then sewn them down to the edges of this blouse and voila! I have my limited edition blouse and it's only one and it's only mine!

Catching up on my fashion week

Hi Peeps,

Sorry if I haven't been online for ages. I have been tied up with a lot of client requests, requirements and deadlines. I guess when you're in this kind of job, you never get to have a social life for yourself. So I decided to write on weekends as this is the time that I can really be free from any phone calls, client calls, article deadlines and all the type of calls from work. Anyway, I want to share with you what I wore for the past week.

First up: Monday, March 8, 2010

First day of the week and work's already up to my sleeves. I wore this beige vest from Space with a sleeveless rusty blouse inside paired up with a black skirt. I had to wear flats as I always run to and fro. Working in advertising means wearing presentable, distinct but functional clothes. So this is what I am having most of the time: comfy, wearable and not too stiff. And did I mention I love earrings? This one i paired with my outfit came from a friend of mine. It's an H&M loops from Abu Dhabi.

Next: Tuesday with Liz Claiborne, March 9, 2010

Summer's here and sun is really up high with the heat. I have this white-printed red dress that my friend made by Liz Claiborne. Paired up with a wide mid-rib belt and accessorized with another pair of H&M loop earrings given by another friend. Working clothes doesn't have to be stiff especially on summers. You really have to be comfortable for you to be able to work well in the field. Thanks to this cotton dress, even if the sun is up, I can still enjoy working outdoors.

Midweek: Working on Curdoroy. Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Brainstorming is one of the things that I do with my colleagues in advertising. Definitely a brain-cracking activity. Despite of that, we still manage to get some inspiration. And I always believe that it has to start with the right outfit. Because the moment you wake up in the morning, you start to set up your mood with the kind of clothes that you wear. I particularly like earth colors or pastel ones, mix and match them. And since I am brown skinned, I do away with the dark ones and stay with the colors that I feel young, bright and vibrant. Wednesdays are like running on your heels. So I have this suede brown wedge ready with this brown curdoroy and orange body shirt. Accentuated with gold-plated necklace and a brass bracelet, I'm good to go for any kind of storm!

I've found this blouse I bought last year from a shop in Timog. I don't usually wear black especially during summer as it attracts heat. But then, when I fit this one-shoulder printed blouse, it worked well on my khaki skinny jeans. With a chain necklace from my sister, a bangle I bought in Chatuchak in Thailand, my favorite H&M loop earring and a headband with dazzling stone details, I'm off for another nerve-cracking client presentation.

This is not a particular day to end the weekend. There's been a lot of stress and discussion with my boss. Too many creative disputes that hang in thru the day. Despite that, I managed to keep my composure after a heated argument. I had this cotton white long sleeve paired up with my jeans and a head piece that seemed to kept my head on. After this not-so-good friday, I can only say "I'm finished."
